IPC15 Panel II
From data to Policy
June 17, 2026, 09.30 WEST. In person and remote
Join leading experts, including Dr. Burke Griggs (Washburn University School of Law), Dr. Chris Funk (Climate Hazards Center (CHC)), Dr. Pierre Kirstetter (NOAA/University of Oklahoma), and others, for a timely discussion on the challenges and opportunities of turning precipitation and climate data into effective policy, operational decisions, and public-good outcomes.
The panel will explore how scientific information can better support decision-making across sectors, from disaster risk reduction and water management to climate adaptation, food security, and early warning systems. In particular, the discussion will focus on the barriers that still limit the use of precipitation data in policy contexts, including uncertainty, communication, institutional capacity, legal and governance frameworks, and the need for trusted interfaces between scientists, agencies, and decision-makers.
As climate extremes become more frequent and impactful, the ability to translate data into timely, transparent, and actionable decisions is increasingly important. This panel will provide an open space to reflect on how the precipitation science community can strengthen its contribution to policy and societal resilience.
Participation is free, but registration is required. A limited number of seats is available, so early registration is encouraged. IPC15 panels are open to registered IPC15 and external participants as well.
