IPC15 Venue: Coimbra, Portugal

Harnessing the data revolution for precipitation estimation and prediction across scales and regimes.

IPC15 will take place at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), in the Central Building: Rua Sílvio Lima (Silvio Lima street). The venue is located in the science campus of the University (Pólo II), in the historic city of Coimbra.

The venue offers modern facilities for scientific exchange, including a state-of-the-art auditorium, where keynotes, panels, and oral sessions will take place halls and breakout spaces suited for parallel talks, and workshops. It is easily accessible from the city center and well connected to public transport (bus).

Getting to Coimbra

Coimbra is centrally located in Portugal and is easily accessible from both major international gateways: Lisbon and Porto.

From Lisbon:

    Direct trains operated by Comboios de Portugal run frequently from Lisboa-Oriente or Lisboa-Santa Apolónia to Coimbra-B.

    • Travel time: ~1h40–2h

    • Comfortable and reliable, with high-speed (Alfa Pendular) and intercity options

  • Coimbra Airport Shuttle: https://www.airportshuttle.pt/

  • Car:

    • Via A1 motorway

    • Travel time: ~2 hours

  • Bus:

    • Several operators provide regular services

    • Travel time: ~2h30

From Porto:

    Frequent connections from Porto-Campanhã to Coimbra-B via Comboios de Portugal.

Upon arrival at Coimbra-B station, a short local train or taxi ride (approximately 5–10 minutes) will take you to Coimbra city center, from where the conference venue is easily reachable.

Accomodations

A selection of hotels has been identified for IPC15 participants, offering a range of options in terms of proximity, comfort, and price. The list below is preliminary, and additional recommendations may be added.

The IPC15 organizing committee is also working with our partners to secure room blocks and preferred rates, and that information will be shared soon.

    A modern hotel located along the Mondego River, within walking distance of the city center and a short commute to the venue.

  • Hotel Dona Inês Coimbra
    A comfortable and practical option offering good accessibility and value, also close to central Coimbra.

    A historic and more premium option set in beautiful gardens, ideal for those seeking a quieter and more scenic stay.

Participants are encouraged to book accommodation early, as Coimbra is a popular destination, particularly during the summer period. Additional lodging options, including guesthouses and short-term rentals, are widely available throughout the city.
